Officially the first post for Invested Wallet, which is extremely exciting! Hopefully, this blog will be not only a great outlet for me but for those of you reading as well.
I won’t bore you with all the details of myself or my entire journey here, but I do recommend if you are interested to Start Here.
This post is mainly an introduction to Invested Wallet and I will provide a simple overview of why I started this blog, a short synopsis of my journey, and what I hope to accomplish with this blog.
Why Invested Wallet?
So in the last year, I’ve been writing more about finances, the FIRE movement (financial independence, retire early), and money in general. It started when I discovered a great blog called Millennial Money over a year ago and wrote three articles for the site.
One of those articles also was picked up by Business Insider, which was super cool to see.
Yet, writing for MM lit the “fire” for myself to launch my own platform. I’ve launched blogs before, currently do a lot of content marketing for my full-time marketing job, and wanted to do it through my own platform.
Hopefully, it will encourage you to also launch your own platform. If so, here’s how you can launch your own blog.
I see Invested Wallet as a few things: a resume booster, more marketing practice, a place to share my financial knowledge and journey, and hopefully a place to inspire more people to care about personal finance.
I think the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement has grown and more and more millennials (even the younger generation) are taking an interest in building long-term wealth where we are not working until will 65+ years old. It’s awesome to see.
And there are a lot of financial blogs out there doing great things too, so I hope you’ll bookmark Invested Wallet too (;
My Financial Journey
As I mentioned above, I won’t go into much detail within this post, but if you are interested I recommend starting here. However, I think it is still important to cover some of the basic highlights.
No, I am not a millionaire nor am I complete financially free. Yet.
Many of the finance bloggers I follow are financially free or are making some insane income per month. It’s awesome and incredibly inspiring. But, it’s also not the norm.
Hopefully, my story can relate to those who maybe are feeling discouraged seeing others online with insane savings or retirement accounts. I currently have over $53,000 invested and saved, which may also seem like a lot. But it is far from being financial free or where I need to be.
Yet, I’ve been able to save that much in four years, pay off my car, pay down student debt, increase my career salary, and increase my savings rate to about 52%. This was not easy to accomplish, especially with a job loss when I started this journey in 2014 and basically restarting my career and financial habits.
But this is also what sparked my interest in writing more about personal finance, career advice, making money work for you, and investing.
What I want to Accomplish with Invested Wallet
I see a few things happening for Invested Wallet and what I also hope to accomplish with this blog.
Firstly, I want to build a community for people who are looking to change their financial situations and be inspired to not feel stuck or frustrated. I also want to get more people sharing their stories on here, so if you are interested in ever guest blogging or even have questions, please contact me. I’m aware it is a crowded space, but because everyone’s journey is different, I think there is plenty of room for me. Hopefully.
Secondly, I want to use this blog as a place for me to share more about my overall experiences and learnings as I myself push forward to reach financial independence at an early age. Being able to write about it is not only therapeutic, but is a great way for me to keep track of mistakes, accomplishments, and learn from others who may write or leave informative comments. So I encourage you to voice your opinions in the comments, even if you think I’m completely wrong.
Thirdly, I’m looking at this blog as a potential business opportunity. No, I’m not looking to post a bunch of spam articles about terrible products I don’t believe in, no I won’t spam everyone with hundreds of pop-up ads or random affiliates that make no sense, etc. My goal is to never compromise good, quality content, just to make a few hundred bucks.
That said, I do think Invested Wallet also is a great opportunity to make some passive income and potentially, even a full-time opportunity in the future to help reach financial independence.
Will it actually happen?
I’m not sure. And if it doesn’t happen, that’s okay too because I have such passion for finance, helping others, and building websites in general, that this is still worth it all for me.
I appreciate you stopping by to read this first intro post and I hope you find value in this blog.
